Muslim students reflect on lack of community time for Juma'h

Published in December 2021, "Muslim students reflect on lack of community time for Juma'h" was my second-to-last article for the News section of "The Wellesley News," although at the time it was combined with Features. I was one of three junior editors for this combined section during the writing of this article. I consider this one of the first articles that required a larger degree of investigative research and remain proud of the piece despite its age.

For the 2019-20 academic year, the College changed the schedule grid itself, maintaining semesters but removing lunch hours. When this was questioned, students were told the schedule could not be changed, but Wellesley College broke the year into quarters of two classes each instead of semesters of four the year after. This article examines the impact this removal had on the Muslim student body, with input from administration, the Muslim chaplain, alums and students.
